Animat have appeared at arthouse cinemas, festivals and other venues across the UK with their unique 'soundtracking' interpretations of weird and wonderful films. Their performances incorporate specially written music, dialogue, effects and remixed themes from the original score and carefully chosen tracks from Animat's eclectic DJ archive. Screenings in 2014 have included John Carpenter's Dark Star and the award-winning animation Belleville Rendezvous. See the LIVE page for more details of these and previous soundtracks. Animat are now collaborating on a new band Rophonic with singer Peter Rophone and harpist Graham McElearney from The Third Half. Rophonic's debut EP The Sun Fell From The Sky came out in September 2013 and 'Earth Lift' from the EP was featured on Volume 6 of the Klassik Lounge Nightflight series compiled by DJ Nartak. Two further EP releases, Welcome Back To The Afterlife and You Are The Audience followed in 2014 and Rophonic are currently writing and recording tracks for a fourth EP and a full-length album to come out in 2015. Musicians. producers and DJs Mark Daly and Michael Harding have been working together as Animat since 2004. They have released music on the Big Chill, Dubmission and Bloodsugar labels, appeared on numerous compilations, remixed tracks for Pitch Black, Banco de Gaia and Deep Dive Corp, and had music used in multimedia projects at Tate Britain and New York’s Leverhouse Gallery.
Animat have also established a national reputation for their innovative series of soundtracking events.
