Animat discography Reviews of A Promise of Snow: Soundtracking Animat have developed a unique approach to live performance
which involves creating new soundtracks to some of our favourite films,
using a mixture of original material and tracks from our eclectic DJ archive. With the express approval of director David Lynch, Animat's
soundtrack to the film was performed live using a mixture of our own original
brand of dubby downtempo and an eclectic selection of tracks from our
DJ archive and we worked with the Picturehouses chain to promote a series
of screenings with music in cinemas across the UK in May and June 2008.
Despite winning numerous awards in Europe and the USA,
the film has not been previously released in the UK and following a successful
test run at the Big Chill and Moor Music
festivals in 2008, we played a series of cinema and other screenings
across the country in 2009, including performances at Beatherder, Greenbelt and Festinho festivals.
The Last Man on Earth (2010-2011) The Last Man on Earth is a 1964 post-apocalyptic
horror fantasy starring the legendary Vincent Price. (The film was remade
in 2007 as 'I am Legend' starring Will Smith). Price stars as scientist
Robert Morgan, one man immune to a virus that has killed most of the earth's
population and transformed the survivors into vampire-like creatures.
In daylight he tours the abandoned city, tracking down and destroying
the vampires, returning before nightfall when the dead rise to assault
his fortified house. Hope arrives in the form of an apparently normal
young woman (Franca Bettoia), but her agenda proves to be more sinister
still… In April 2011 we were invited by the Sensoria festival to produce amd perform a live soundtrack to The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) in collaboration with Sheffield-based improvising musicians The Abstract Film Orchestra (harp, piano, cello, guitar and pedal steel). The first ever full-length animation, Prince
Achmed is a beautiful silhouette animation which showcases the
extraordinary work of German director Lotte Reiniger. The live score by
'Sheffield's very own soundtracking supergroup' mixes Animat's lush electronic
soundscapes with the improvised acoustic approach of AFO with magical
results. |
